About Me

📝 Latest Article

What's been on my blog lately (click to read it!):

👋 About Me

Extremely-online since ninety-nine (or possibly earlier, but I like the rhyme). Blogs at DanQ.me with posts going back to ~1998. Toots as @dan@danq.me. Queerer than the average bear.

I was six years old when I decided I wanted to be a computer programmer. So that's what I did. As a result, my career history is the most boring thing imaginable. It's like the story of somebody who self-actualised at 21 and couldn't quite work up the courage to do anything different.

But at night, I become... well, whatever you see here, I guess. Owner of too many domain names. Compulsive volunteer. Releaser of terrible open-source tools. Lover of the indieweb/smolweb. Lifelong learner.

📰 What've I been blogging?

I'm a prolific blogger, writing copious short notes, reposts with commentary, and location-based checkins, along with a smattering of longer-form "articles".

🐌 Snail-Mail Me?

I've recently started encouraging Internet people to send me (physical!) postcards - here are some I've received already. It all started here on Melonland! Would you like to send me one?

My Interests

  • Magic (in-person, and ideally up-close; videos of magic are boring).
  • Geo*ing (geohashing, geocaching, sometimes other GPS sports).
  • Making the Web fun and weird (again), one page at a time.
  • Science fiction. Science fact. Science.

Just wanted to reply to a comment since the thread got locked "If you're trying to tell us that you don't use toilet paper you can just come out and say it, we don't mind."

Enema can replace toilet paper, in Japan for example they have toilets that squirt water when you're done using them.

That's it that's all I wanted to say, have a good day

Hey Dan. Thanks for checking out the project, and thanks for your suggestions!

I updated the links to be "real links", so keyboard navigation should work now (including tabbing/shift+tabbing event titles and map markers and pressing return/enter to select them). Most of my testing for this project has been on mobile, so I hadn't considered keyboard navigation much. I think it's a nice improvement. "Open in new tab" is working now too!

I also tried your suggestion to use pushState instead of replaceState. Being able to navigate back/forwards using the browser's native navigation is nice, but I felt it was a little inconvenient if the user opened /events, browsed around, clicked every event, and then just wanted to quickly go back to where they were before they opened /events. In my mind, this tool is more like a "single page app", so interactions within the app shouldn't create navigation history.

I also looked into h-event compatability and RSVP webmentions. Both are really interesting! I'll dig deeper into these and think about adding them in.

Thanks again!

Yeah, it's not quite there, but its simplicity and the bases of decentral Trust makes it in my opinion a good standard. And I hope for wider Adoption.
