I just had a peep at your /events after hearing about it in Wednesday Website Club. It's really cool!
I notice that when I click on an event in the list, the URL changes but I can't use the back button to get back to where I was. Also, even though the resulting URLs are shareable... the way to get to them isn't actually a "link", it's a "spicy <div>": this is a problem because it ruins accessibility (try navigating through the list of links without a mouse, for example!) and also prevents people from going e.g. "open in new tab", even though those things would work fine!
Can I suggest you:
1. Switch the links to being links! <a href="./?mario-kart-64-tournament-2026-06-12">...[/url], etc., and
2. Still capture the clicks on them... but use pushState, not replaceState. pushState means "as if I navigated to a new page", replaceState means "as if this were the same page".
Anyway: you've got a cool idea going on. If you want to get a HUGE leap forwards you could also add h-event microformat compatibility and accept RSVP webmentions, so that anybody blogging about going to an event automatically gets added (with the appropriate response) to the RSVP list! But I appreciate that's a whole LOT more complicated! Just a thought!
