About Me
I'm Jess, and I've been webcrafting since we first got the internet at my house in 1999. Geocities, Angelfire, Express Page, FreeWebz...if it had a free tier, I was publishing something on it. Most of those are lost now.
This past winter was brutal here in NY. Playing Perfect Tides: Station to Station, Meredith Gran's amazing point n click adventure game, brought me some relief from the SADs. It also sent me down a rabbit hole with my old LiveJournal from that era, which still exists, incredibly.
Is it cringe? Hell yes. It also made me crack up in many places, and want to cry in others. That girl's life and thoughts (and 'Which Lord of the Rings Character is Your Soulmate?' quiz results) are worth preserving. I started thinking about saving and rebuilding it as something that couldn't vanish so easily. And then I started having fun making that as outlandish and crowded and chaotic as possible, using my memory of that digital landscape and the skills I didn't have yet.
Enter the Jesslair! is a WIP, and designed with community interaction in mind. You can comment, join the webring, play with the toys. One of the best things about that time and space was the random friends who would appear in the comments. And the best thing about this time and space is that the potential for random connection never really went away.
